Automobile & engineering: Maharashtra and Gujarat are major automobile and engineering hubs, with manufacturing and auto-component industries.
Textiles:Gujarat and Maharashtra have important textile centres. Surat is particularly famous for textiles and synthetic fabrics.
Gems & Jewellery :Gujarat, especially Surat, is a global centre for diamond cutting and polishing. Gujarat accounts for a very large share of India's diamond exports.
Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals: Gujarat and Maharashtra have major chemical, petrochemical and pharmaceutical industries. Gujarat is particularly strong in chemicals and petrochemicals.
Mining & Cement: Rajasthan is known for its mineral resources and cement industry, making mining and mineral-based manufacturing important to its economy.
Tourism & Services: West India also has a major tourism, hospitality, banking, finance, transportation and entertainment sector, particularly in Maharashtra, Goa and Rajasthan.
